Students @ Play

Richa MauryaBadminton Player, VIII Semester, ECE

"'Always play to win, but whenever you lose, say it to yourself 'Get up, dust off and start again'"

Being a champion is everyone's dream and mine is no different. Although I was fascinated by this game since childhood, I never really tried my hand at it. Seeing my seniors play in college, I got inspired and took up this sport. The sound of the shuttle being hit, the music of smashes & the cheers from the spectators boost my performance. It has been an enthralling experience that keeps me physically fit and mentally fresh.

Achievements: Played and won in tournaments at GIT (Gold Medal), JEC (Gold Medal), BITS Pilani (Bronze Medal), LNMIT (Silver Medal)

'Doing anything with 100% passion removes the fear of failure'

Every sport has a different degree of difficulty, but badminton is one of the most interesting games I have ever played. It provides me happiness and satisfaction. It keeps me physically and mentally fit and installs in me a spirit of self-confidence, self-reliance, discipline and fair play. When I hold the racquet, the only thing that keeps me on my toes is the spirit to perform and win. Every game has really been an enriching experience for me.

Achievements: Played in tournaments at GIT, Gyan Vihar College, Shankara, LNMIT, JEC

Surendra SinghBasketball Player, VI Semester, CS

'Three factors keep me firm, my decision to play, my desperation to learn and my team'

Basketball may be a mere game for some people, but it is the unbounded passion of my life. I picked up the game when I was 12 years old and since then there hasn't been a single evening that I am not on the court shooting hoops. Now I wear the colors of our college JEC on my chest and play for the college which is an immense pleasure for me. The only advice I would like to give is 'practice makes a man perfect. You'll always have to puff up your chest and practice as hard as you can'.

'There is an analogy between last moment intense practice sessions for a game and last moment studies for exams'

I started playing the game 5 years ago. Initially I wasn't serious and just played for fun. My short height was a limitation and I hoped it would increase, but it did not. With due course of time I got serious for my game and realized that my height was not really an issue. I worked hard and participated in many school tournaments. My school was never known for sports. We never won any tournaments but I got recognized. I love the sports culture here in JIET and I am looking forward to put best for the college team as well.

Idol Player: Allen Iverson

Anshul BansalFootball Player, VI Semester, CS

I eat, sleep, and breathe soccer. I don't know what I would do without it.

My seniors inspired me when I watched them playing. Now…. all what I think is football. All what I dream about, is football. Football is my passion. It makes the players forget rivalry, injuries, blood and teaches teamwork. A single player can't score; it's the team which creates the magic.

I wait the whole day and long for the Sun to move more quickly to the west so that I can again get into my boots and learn something new. My passion knows no limits. I would watch a single video several times and then also it feels that I missed some tips. The best part about our team is our understanding; we know one another's strength and weaknesses. We all would have moved out of hostels years before, Had there been no football. It has kept us together. It has created our little, notorious and dangerous family :)
